Jennifer couldn’t believe her eyes.

The cat was sound asleep on the bear’s chest and the bear appeared to be asleep as well.

Not only that, but Shredder was purring.

Unbelievable.

Even as she was thinking that maybe she should just step out and leave the bear to bond with the cat on his own, Bryce’s eyes opened and he scowled at her.

And there he was.

Cranky Bear.

“What’s wrong, CB?”

A perplexed look crossed Bryce’s face. “CB?”

She grinned. “Shorthand for Cranky Bear.”

He scowled. “No.”

She giggled. “I can’t believe you’re still in a bad mood. How can you be cranky when you’ve got a purring cat on your chest?”

“Quite easily, especially when that cat is Shredder. You mind getting him off me?”

Jennifer grinned. “What, are you afraid to do it yourself?”

“Uh, yeah.”

Jennifer laughed. “Fine. Come here, baby.” She picked Shredder up and cuddled him a moment before setting him down on the floor.

Bryce sat up and glared at her. “I can’t believe you.”

“Oh, for heaven’s sake. What’s your problem now? I just helped you, didn’t I?”

Bryce surged to his feet, reached over the back of the couch and yanked the curtains wide. “That’s my problem.”

She looked out the window, then back at Bryce. “I don’t get it.”

“Why is there an inflatable polar bear on my front lawn?”

“Are you kidding me? Because it’s awesome!”

“It is not awesome. It’s ridiculous!”

“You’re ridiculous. That polar bear is perfect!”

“You’re insane. That’s the only possible explanation.” Bryce crossed his arms and glared at her. “You’re insane.”

“He’s the perfect Christmas accessory for a polar bear’s home!” Jennifer waved her arms and began to pace back and forth. “How can you not see that?” She couldn’t believe how stubborn Bryce was. She stormed to the front door and flung it open. “Look at him! He’s so big and white and glowing and he’s got a Santa hat and a scarf and he’s wearing ice skates! How can you not love him?”

Bryce stamped to the front door and peered out it. “He’s wearing ice skates?”

“You didn’t notice?”

“Hell, no, I didn’t notice!” He flung open the door, stormed down the porch steps and stamped through the snow toward the polar bear. He glared down at its feet and let out a low growl.

She was right.

It was wearing ice skates.

Jennifer reached his side and Bryce’s frustration boiled over.

He whirled and yelled in her face, “Why is the polar bear wearing ice skates?”

Jennifer took a step back, belatedly registering how annoyed Bryce really was. “Well, maybe he’s a shifter bear.”

“A shifter bear who ice skates in his shifter form?”

Jennifer shrugged. “Maybe.”

Bryce’s eyes narrowed and he stormed toward her.

She scrambled back, but he jut kept coming and suddenly he was right there, in her space, grabbing her shoulders, hauling her up on her toes and then—

He kissed her.
